Duration/ expiry trademark protection

Trademark protection is established retroactively to the filing date upon successful registration and must be renewed every 10 years. This can be repeated as often as desired, provided the trademark continues to be used. After registration of the trademark, a grace period of 5 years applies in most countries (e.g. Switzerland). If the trademark is not used after this period, it expires and becomes invalid.
